The cooks come from all over, each bringing the flavors of home, along with dishes of their own. It's a buffet, and you give what feels right.
Harappa Cafe is a community diner in Yufuin, open to everyone, children and adults alike.
It's hard to say where the cooks end and the guests begin. What reaches the table is less a restaurant's cooking than the food you'd make for your own family. Whoever is in the kitchen and whoever is at the table, everyone here is someone who came to share it.
The cooks here are travelers. Each makes the food they grew up with, a dish they learned while traveling, or an invention of their own. Some days the food is comforting. Some days it's like nothing you've seen before.
It's a buffet, so everyone can dig in, and you're welcome to take your time. As you leave, put what feels right into the box by the door. That becomes the next day's meal.
We want Harappa Cafe to be a place where people who might never otherwise meet can share a meal, and where anyone can feel at ease. It's run entirely by volunteers, who come from across Japan and abroad through a program called WWOOF.
We're volunteer-run, so email is the easiest way to reach us.
We take reservations for the 11:50 and 18:00 seatings only.
